Great Tamerlane (Amir Timur) ordered his portrait from artists. The first artist painted a beauty that Tamerlan never was: he drew a tall, fair-skinned man in a luxurious robe, Tamerlan himself was a little man, dark-skinned and lame. Tamerlan saw that the portrait didn't look like him - and ordered the artist to execute. The second artist, learned from the bitter experience of the first, drew Tamerlane, as it is - small, limp and ugly. Tamerlan understood that he hit the target and still ordered to execute this master. And the third artist was the most cunning: he painted Tamerlane like himself, but to hide the small growth and limp - on a horse. Tamerlane liked the portrait and awarded the artist.
